Essential Guide to the Santa Claus Parade
The holiday season is just around the corner, and the Santa Claus Parade is set to delight the community once again. This year, participants can expect a newly designed route that enhances safety and visibility.
Santa Claus Parade Details
Join the festive atmosphere in downtown Victoria on Saturday, November 29. The parade will commence at 5:30 p.m., showcasing a variety of floats and lively music. Attendees are encouraged to dress warmly and position themselves along Government, Wharf, or Johnson streets for the best views.
New Parade Route
The updated parade route begins at Government and Belleville Street. From there, it will follow these directions:
- North on Government Street
- Left turn onto Wharf Street
- Right turn onto Johnson Street
- Left back onto Government Street
- Ends at Fisgard Street
Transportation Options
To ease congestion, organizers encourage walking, biking, or taking public transit. A Free Downtown Bike Valet will be available in Centennial Square from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Keep in mind that temporary bus stops and route changes may occur—check BC Transit for updates.
Safety Precautions and Road Closures
For the safety of participants and spectators, several roads will be closed during the event:
- Road Closures:
- Government Street (Superior to Humboldt St.) from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
- Belleville Street (Menzies to Douglas St.) from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
- Menzies Street (Superior to Belleville St.) during the same time frame.
- Johnson Street (Lower Johnson from Wharf to Government) from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
- Parking Information:
- Yates Street Parkade and Ship Point waterfront parking lot will close at 4:45 p.m.
- Wharf Street parking lots will not allow exits until the parade is over.
- Yates Street Parkade will switch to exit-only status at 5 p.m.
During the parade, Government Street between Yates and Chatham will not allow any crossings. The Johnson Street Bridge will remain open but will have detours in place for westbound traffic, while the Bay Street Bridge is recommended for access to downtown.
