Amsons Group, a pan-African energy and industrial conglomerate, has partnered with Zambia’s Exergy Africa Limited to develop a $900 million power project in Tanzania. This collaboration aims to generate 1,300 megawatts of new power, incorporating both solar and coal-fired generation capabilities.

Details of the Partnership

The strategic alliance will see the development of 1,000 megawatts of solar energy and 300 megawatts from coal. This approach is set to enhance Zambia’s national energy security and spur industrial growth. By merging Exergy’s local expertise with Amsons Group’s regional capabilities, the partnership aims to create a reliable pipeline of power projects tailored to meet Zambia’s long-term energy needs.

Impact on Zambia’s Energy Sector

This initiative aims to significantly boost Zambia’s power generation capabilities and enhance grid stability, particularly for industrial sectors. The partnership also seeks to foster new manufacturing and mining opportunities, promoting long-term job creation and economic resilience.

  • 500 megawatts of solar capacity expected to be added to the grid within 18 months.
  • The full installation of 1,300 megawatts, including solar and coal, to be completed in 24 months.
