All Post Offices to Close for One Day This Month, Halting Mail Service

The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) is preparing for the holiday rush, with the busiest week expected to begin on December 15. During this period, individuals will be looking to send holiday gifts and greeting cards, striving to meet deadlines for timely delivery.

Holiday Closure Dates for Post Offices

All post office locations will be closed on Christmas Day (December 25) and New Year’s Day (January 1, 2026). Normal mail delivery will resume the following days:

• December 26 for Christmas
• January 2 for New Year’s

While post offices are closed, self-service kiosks and smart lockers will remain operational, providing limited service to customers.

To ensure packages arrive before December 25, customers should adhere to the following deadlines based on the service type:

• December 17 — USPS Ground Advantage
• December 17 — First-Class Mail
• December 18 — Priority Mail
• December 20 — Priority Mail Express

These deadlines vary slightly for shipments to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and U.S. Territories:
