Shanahan Discusses Pearsall’s Injury, Purdy’s Highlights After Titans Victory
Following the San Francisco 49ers’ 37-24 victory over the Tennessee Titans in Week 15, head coach Kyle Shanahan shared several insights during his press conference. The discussion included injury updates, the standout performance of quarterback Brock Purdy, and the effectiveness of the offensive line.
Injury Updates: Pearsall’s Status Uncertain
Shanahan provided an optimistic injury report, indicating that several players might return to practice this week. Key players expected back include:
- Offensive lineman Spencer Burford
- Defensive lineman Jordan Elliott
- Linebackers Eric Kendricks and Tatum Bethune
- Defensive lineman Sam Okuayinonu
However, wide receiver Ricky Pearsall remains a concern due to a re-aggravated PCL injury and an ankle sprain. Shanahan acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding his availability, noting, “There is a concern. Hopefully, it’s not at all like it was when he first did it.” Pearsall had an impressive game, recording six receptions for 96 yards, averaging 16 yards per catch.
Purdy’s Stellar Performance
Shanahan praised quarterback Brock Purdy for his effective decision-making and playmaking against the Titans. Purdy completed 23 of 30 passes for 295 yards, securing three touchdowns and a season-high passer rating of 140.3. He also contributed with seven rushes for 44 yards, including a notable career-long run of 26 yards. Shanahan remarked, “I thought Brock had a really good game,” highlighting Purdy’s ability to extend plays and capitalize on opportunities.
Offensive Line’s Strong Showing
The 49ers’ offensive line faced a significant challenge against Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons. Shanahan commended the line’s physicality, emphasizing their effort to neutralize Simmons’ impact. “I felt like when we got two guys on him, we handled him pretty well,” he remarked. Left tackle Trent Williams particularly stood out, earning a high PFF grade of 95.6. Shanahan expressed enthusiasm for Williams’ performance, stating, “He had a hell of a game.”
Looking Towards the Future
Shanahan expressed confidence in the team’s rookie class, despite some players seeing reduced playing time as veterans return. He highlighted defensive lineman Alfred Collins as a promising young talent, although he acknowledged the need for continued growth. Shanahan stated, “I like where he is, but I’m also more excited about what I think he can be.”
Upcoming Matchup
The 49ers will next face another challenge in “Monday Night Football,” this time in Indianapolis. Previously, the team secured a 20-9 victory against the Carolina Panthers in their Week 12 meeting. The 49ers are scheduled to take a brief break for rest and recovery before resuming practice on Thursday.
