Oilers Move Goaltender Jarry to LTIR, Activate Forward Kapanen
The Edmonton Oilers have officially moved goaltender Tristan Jarry to long-term injured reserve (LTIR), a decision announced on January 6, 2026. Coach Kris Knoblauch noted that Jarry is expected to be sidelined for a few more weeks due to a lower-body injury.
Tristan Jarry’s Injury Status
Tristan Jarry, a two-time NHL All-Star, suffered the injury while making a save in a game against the Boston Bruins on December 18. Prior to the injury, Jarry played three games with the Oilers, winning each match after being acquired in a trade from the Pittsburgh Penguins.
On January 6, Jarry returned to the ice for optional practice and participated in shooting drills. Coach Knoblauch mentioned that Jarry could return to full practice shortly, potentially within the upcoming week.
Activation of Kasperi Kapanen
In a related move, the Oilers also activated forward Kasperi Kapanen from injured reserve. Kapanen has been recuperating from a lower-body injury sustained on October 19, 2025.
- Kapanen has contributed two assists in six games this season.
- He was available for the Oilers’ home game against the Nashville Predators on January 6.
With Jarry on LTIR, Connor Ingram was named the starting goaltender for the game against Nashville, highlighting the ongoing adjustments the Oilers are making to their roster in light of recent injuries.
