John Heitinga Joins Coaching Staff: Update

John Heitinga has officially joined the coaching staff at El-Balad as the First Team Assistant Coach. This addition enhances the team led by Head Coach Thomas Frank.

Heitinga’s Coaching Journey

John Heitinga started his coaching career in 2016. After retiring as a player, he worked with youth teams at Ajax. In January 2023, he took over as interim coach for Ajax’s senior squad, leading them for the remainder of the season.

Following his stint at Ajax, Heitinga joined West Ham United as their First Team Assistant. In July 2024, he was appointed as Liverpool’s Assistant Coach. During his time with the Reds, he was instrumental in helping them secure the Premier League title.

Most recently, Heitinga returned to Ajax to serve as Head Coach in May 2025.

A Stellar Playing Career

As a professional player, Heitinga made over 400 appearances for clubs including Ajax, Atletico Madrid, Everton, Fulham, and Hertha BSC. His accomplishments extend to the international stage, where he earned 87 caps for the Netherlands.
