Red Sox Eyeing Infielder Options, Heyman Reveals Four Potential Targets
The Boston Red Sox are currently seeking options for infield depth following the departure of Alex Bregman in free agency. Their search intensifies, even after securing left-hander Ranger Suárez with a significant five-year, $130 million deal.
Red Sox Infield Replacement Strategy
According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Red Sox plan to promote Marcelo Mayer to take over at third base. However, they are actively exploring options for a second baseman.
Potential Targets for the Red Sox
- Nico Hoerner (Chicago Cubs) – Hoerner is a free agent after the 2025 season. He had a standout year in 2025, batting .297 with 29 stolen bases. He also won a Gold Glove at second base, displaying superb defense across 156 games. However, the Cubs may be hesitant to trade him.
- Isaac Paredes (Houston Astros) – The Red Sox are rumored to be in discussions with the Astros, who have a surplus of infield talent. Paredes batted .254 with 20 home runs and 53 RBIs in 102 games in 2025, solidifying his position despite defensive shortcomings.
- Alec Bohm (Philadelphia Phillies) – Bohm played 120 games and had a .287 batting average, contributing 11 homers and 59 RBIs. Although it was not his best season compared to his 2024 All-Star performance, he remains a viable option.
- Eugenio Suárez (Free Agent) – Suárez had an explosive season, hitting 49 home runs and driving in 118 runs over 159 games with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Seattle Mariners after a midseason trade. He is currently a free agent.
Looking Ahead
The Red Sox’s focus is to bolster their infield as they prepare for the upcoming season. Identifying and securing reliable players will be crucial for their competitive aspirations.
