Rare Leopard Cub Zeya Debuts at Dartmoor Zoo
A rare Amur leopard cub named Zeya has made her debut at Dartmoor Zoo in Devon. This significant event marks the introduction of a member of a critically endangered species.
About Zeya the Amur Leopard Cub
Zeya was born on September 29, 2025. She is the offspring of parent leopards Freddo and Lena. The cub’s name is inspired by the River Zeya, located in the Amur region of eastern Russia, where these leopards are typically found in the wild.
A Rare Species
The Amur leopard is one of the world’s rarest big cats. Currently, Zeya is one of approximately 15 Amur leopards born globally in 2025. This highlights the importance of her birth for conservation efforts.
Gaining Public Interaction
Zeya is currently acclimating to her on-display enclosure. Dartmoor Zoo invites visitors to come meet the cub and witness her journey. However, the zoo asks guests to maintain a calm and quiet atmosphere to ensure Zeya feels comfortable in her new environment.
Visitor Guidelines
