Team Canada Shines in Slopestyle, Speed Skating, and Hockey at 2026 Olympics

Team Canada is set to make a significant impact at the 2026 Olympics, particularly in slopestyle, speed skating, and hockey. Canadian athletes are excelling in various winter sports events, showcasing their skills and determination.

Mark McMorris Aims for Olympic Glory

Mark McMorris, a 32-year-old snowboarder, is striving for his fourth consecutive Olympic medal. He currently holds three bronze medals and aspires to upgrade his status. Recently, McMorris secured victory in the slopestyle competition at the Winter X Games, bringing his total gold medal count to 12 and total medals to 25.

Although McMorris faced setbacks prior to the Olympics, including a concussion, bruised pelvis, and strained abdominal muscles from a fall during practice, he has made a strong comeback. In the slopestyle qualifiers, he achieved the third-best score, positioning himself well for the final competition.

Canadian Competitors in Slopestyle

In addition to McMorris, Cameron Spalding, the reigning World Cup champion in slopestyle, performed admirably, finishing fifth in the qualifying rounds. Slopestyle events challenge riders to navigate courses filled with obstacles such as rails and jumps, with athletes judged on their stunts.

The final slopestyle runs will begin early, with the last run scheduled for 6:16 a.m. ET. Competitors will execute three runs, and only their best performance will count towards their final score.

Women’s Snowboard Slopestyle Competitors

Team Canada is also represented in the women’s snowboard slopestyle finals. The event was rescheduled from Tuesday to Wednesday due to heavy snowfall and poor visibility in Livigno. Veteran snowboarder Laurie Blouin, who earned gold at the 2017 World Championships and silver at the 2018 Olympics, qualified in ninth place. Juliette Pelchat secured the final spot in the event by finishing twelfth.

The women’s slopestyle final is set to commence at 8:30 a.m. ET, with the last run taking place at 9:26 a.m. ET.
