Chrysler and Alfa CEO Departs; Dodge Leader Assumes Dual Role

Chrysler has announced a significant leadership change as CEO Chris Feuell departs, effective immediately. Her exit marks a new chapter for the automaker as it encounters ongoing challenges in product offerings. Stellantis is now looking to reinforce its North American strategy by appointing Dodge CEO Matt McAlear to lead both Chrysler and Alfa Romeo.

Leadership Transition at Chrysler

Chris Feuell, who joined Stellantis in 2021, leaves behind a company that has seen a dramatic decrease in model offerings. During her tenure, Chrysler’s lineup diminished to just two models: the Pacifica minivan and its budget counterpart, the Voyager. The Chrysler 300, another key model, ceased production in 2023, leaving Chrysler heavily reliant on its minivan sales.

Performance Under Feuell’s Leadership

Under Feuell, Chrysler managed to stabilize its sales amid a contractive minivan market. Sales figures for the Pacifica and Voyager demonstrated a slight year-over-year improvement. However, forward-looking prospects remain overshadowed by the lack of new vehicle launches.

  • Pacific and Voyager as the sole models in the lineup
  • Chrysler 300 production ended in 2023
  • Sales of Alfa Romeo dropped 36% in North America last year

Matt McAlear Takes the Helm

With Feuell’s departure, Matt McAlear steps into a dual role as CEO of Chrysler and overseer of Alfa Romeo in North America. McAlear, a 13-year veteran of Stellantis, has been at the forefront of Dodge since 2024. His leadership included the launch of the new Charger muscle car, showcasing his expertise in the automotive sector.

Future Direction for Chrysler

This leadership transition comes amid broader organizational changes at Stellantis under CEO Antonio Filosa. Recently appointed executives, including a new chief financial officer, are working to stabilize North American operations. As Chrysler approaches its 100th anniversary in 2025, its product strategy is still in question.

The immediate focus will be on refreshing the Pacifica, with updates planned for the 2027 model year. However, beyond this, Chrysler’s future direction remains uncertain, highlighting the need for a robust plan to revitalize the brand.
