Foxboro Stunned by Kraft Group’s Latest World Cup Security Funding Statement

The town of Foxboro, Massachusetts, has expressed its shock and disappointment regarding a recent statement from the Kraft Sports Group concerning security funding for the upcoming FIFA World Cup matches. Seven matches are scheduled to take place at Gillette Stadium beginning on June 13, 2026.

Ongoing Disputes Over Security Funding

Foxboro is at odds with both FIFA and Boston 2026, the local partner for FIFA. The dispute has persisted for several months. The town demands that FIFA and Boston 2026 pay a security bill of $7.8 million upfront. However, both organizations have indicated they prefer to reimburse the town post-event, or they claim that necessary security equipment will be available by June 1.

The attorney representing Boston 2026 stated that if federal funding does not come through, the Kraft Sports Group and Boston 2026 would cover the costs within two days after the event concludes. Foxboro, however, has deemed this arrangement as “unacceptable” and continues to refuse to pay upfront.

Gillette Stadium’s Commitment

A spokesperson for Gillette Stadium reassured Foxboro representatives that the facility is committed to addressing the town’s security-related concerns. They stated that support would be provided to meet financial needs through the federal FIFA World Cup Grant program and additional logistical backing. The spokesperson emphasized that while World Cup matches do not generate direct revenue for the stadium, they create significant tourism and visibility for Massachusetts.

Foxboro’s Response and Concerns

In a statement released on Friday, Foxboro countered that any claims of a reached funding agreement were “categorically false.” The town argued that the cost of security services is a small fraction of the anticipated revenue generated by such events. They criticized the Kraft Group and event organizers for perceived resistance in addressing these security needs.

Foxboro reiterated, “The Town cannot and will not finance the Kraft Group’s losses by sacrificing public safety.”

Kraft Group’s Position

The Kraft Group has responded by denying any claims of having reached an agreement with Foxboro. They expressed disappointment over the town’s unilateral conclusion without engaging in discussions at a public hearing set for March 17. The Kraft Group stated their goal is to reach an amicable agreement with the town.

  1. World Cup matches at Gillette Stadium start: June 13, 2026
  2. Foxboro demands upfront payment for security: $7.8 million
  3. Public hearing scheduled: March 17

As the World Cup approaches in less than 100 days, the need for clarity regarding security arrangements remains urgent. The town and the Kraft Group face pressure to resolve their differences rapidly to ensure a successful event.
