Lucid Motors Launches Cosmos, Earth Models to Conquer Affordable EV Market
Lucid Motors has announced its plans to expand into the affordable electric vehicle (EV) market. This marks a significant shift for the company, which has primarily focused on luxury EVs, such as the Air sedan and Gravity SUV. The new strategy includes unveiling two upcoming models: the Lucid Cosmos and the Lucid Earth.
New Models for Affordable EVs
These models are part of Lucid’s initiative to produce EVs priced below €43,000, contrasting sharply with their previous offerings costing over $100,000. Lucid introduced these plans during an Investor Day event, revealing a new midsize platform aimed at cutting production costs.
-
Lucid Cosmos
The Cosmos is aimed at performance enthusiasts, capable of accelerating from 0 to 97 km/h in just 3.5 seconds. This model is categorized as “sporty and advanced.”
-
Lucid Earth
The Earth model emphasizes utility and practicality, designed for daily tasks and adventures while retaining advanced technology found in the Cosmos.

Unnamed Large Model
A third, yet-to-be-named model has been hinted at. It is anticipated to be very spacious, focusing on utility rather than speed.
Innovative Manufacturing Processes
To lower production costs, Lucid is implementing new manufacturing techniques. The engineers have focused on simplifying designs, resulting in a new motor known as “Atlas.” This smaller, lighter motor uses 30% fewer parts while maintaining high efficiency and power.
Battery costs are another area where Lucid aims to achieve savings. The company is leveraging its technology to utilize smaller, lighter batteries that can deliver comparable driving ranges to those of larger competitors’ models.
Future Plans and Features
In addition to new vehicle models, Lucid is exploring the robotaxi sector. They plan to offer self-driving features through monthly subscriptions. Moreover, the integration of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto into their vehicles will enhance user connectivity and experience.
Lucid Motors’ strategy to enter the affordable EV market aims to broaden its customer base. By diversifying its offerings, the company hopes to increase sales and ensure long-term sustainability in the growing electric vehicle sector.
