Key Features of the 2027 BMW i3

The i3 will be powered by an 800 V battery pack, featuring cylindrical cells that boost energy density by 20 percent compared to previous prismatic cells used in the i4. This innovative cell-to-pack design further improves the overall energy density.

Powertrain Specifications

The i3 50 xDrive variant will feature a combination of an asynchronous front motor and an electrically excited synchronous rear motor. This system is designed to reduce energy losses by 40 percent, while also being 10 percent lighter and 20 percent more cost-effective to produce.

BMW emphasizes sustainability with the i3, incorporating around 30 percent recycled materials into its construction. The use of mono materials facilitates easier recycling at the end of the vehicle’s life. Moreover, extensive reliance on renewable energy sources throughout the supply chain allows the i3 to achieve a carbon output break-even with gasoline models in just a year.

Driving Dynamics and Comfort

The i3 is designed to uphold BMW’s tradition of exceptional driving dynamics, achieving a nearly perfect weight distribution of 50:50 due to the low center of gravity provided by the battery pack. It is equipped with softer springs compared to the iX3, improving ride comfort.

Advanced Braking and Handling

The vehicle features a unique torque delivery system that enhances stability during cornering and employs regenerative braking extensively. In everyday driving, the regenerative system is predicted to handle up to 95 percent of braking events, making the i3 capable of providing a smooth stop with its innovative one-pedal driving mode.
