The recently released EPA certification documents for the Rivian R2 reveal promising performance metrics for the upcoming electric SUV. The 2027 Rivian R2 Performance achieves a substantial range and energy efficiency, surpassing the Tesla Model Y in key areas.

Rivian R2 Performance: Key Metrics

The 2027 Rivian R2 Performance, equipped with 21-inch wheels, has demonstrated an impressive driving range of 335 miles during EPA testing. This figure exceeds Rivian’s earlier estimate by 5 miles. The vehicle boasts a usable battery capacity of 88.67 kilowatt-hours, slightly higher than the 87.9 kWh initially announced.

Energy Efficiency Comparison

When it comes to energy consumption, the Rivian R2 Performance outperforms the Tesla Model Y Performance. The R2 has an average energy efficiency of 3.77 miles per kilowatt-hour, translating to 26.52 kWh per 100 miles. In contrast, the Tesla Model Y Performance consumes 32 kWh per 100 miles, achieving only 3.125 miles per kilowatt-hour.

Additional Test Results

Future Models and Pricing

While the R2 Performance is set to launch this spring, Rivian plans to release additional models by early 2027. Upcoming configurations include:

  • R2 Premium: Estimated at $55,485
  • R2 Standard: Estimated at $49,985 with an expected range of 345 miles
  • R2 Standard (smaller battery): Pricing starts at $46,495, with a range over 275 miles, anticipated by late 2027

Charging Capabilities

The Rivian R2 also includes notable charging features. It supports peak DC fast charging at 210 kW and AC charging up to 11.5 kW. A new efficient heat pump system will come standard with all R2 variants, enhancing performance while reducing noise levels.
