Spacex Approves Musk Pay Package Tied to Mars Goal
SpaceX approved a compensation package for Elon Musk that ties his pay to Mars colonization goals. The move puts a price on some of the company’s boldest targets, from a lunar base to Starlink satellites.
Nancy Tengler said, "SpaceX is settling on a compensation package." She added, "we also have these sort of compensation package ties to what exactly he's going to do as far as colonization on Mars."

SpaceX’s board has discretion if Mars goals are not reached, a detail that gives the package real leverage instead of treating the targets as symbolic. Musk’s compensation is being measured against work that stretches beyond the company’s core launch business and into longer-term space infrastructure.
"Mars versus data center in space. Data center in space sounds like it's it could happen tomorrow versus, right?" Tengler said during the discussion. That comparison captures the gap between nearer-term concepts and the more distant Mars milestone now attached to Musk’s pay.
Brooke DiPalma and Pras Subramanian discussed the package with Tengler on Yahoo Finance, putting the board’s decision in the middle of a wider debate over how to value SpaceX’s ambition. The compensation plan links executive pay to outcomes that include colonization on Mars, a lunar base, data centers in space, and Starlink satellites.
