Rivera Faces $3,068 Damage Case at Cps Energy Facility
Genaro Jesus Rivera Jr. was taken into custody on Tuesday after allegedly stealing copper from a cps energy facility in the 8900 block of Old Corpus Christi Highway. Investigators say the Feb. 5, 2026 incident left the utility with $3,068 in estimated damage.
Rivera was booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center on a $90,000 bond. He faces charges of theft of material, criminal mischief and damage critical infrastructure.

A CPS Energy investigator told a Texas Department of Public Safety special agent about the theft and turned over an incident report and surveillance video. The report, along with bodycam footage from San Antonio police officers who contacted Rivera the morning of the theft, placed him at the center of the case.
According to the footage, Rivera had red bolt cutters and cut cables of copper wire. He was wearing the same clothes in the bodycam recording and the surveillance video, which also showed him in the area where the copper wire was cut.
Surveillance Video
The surveillance video later showed Rivera jumping over the security fence, adding another link in the chain of evidence tied to the facility on Old Corpus Christi Highway. The estimated damage figure included overhead costs and repairs, according to the warrant.
For CPS Energy, the case now moves from a theft report to a criminal case tied to a utility site listed in the charges as critical infrastructure. Rivera’s bond and detention status mean the next step is the court process that will determine how the allegations are handled.
