Greg Abel will run Berkshire Hathaway's official annual meeting on Saturday in Omaha after Warren Buffett retired in December, shifting the weekend's center of gravity to the man now fronting the company. Thousands of shareholders are expected to arrive in the city, with the main event set for CHI Health Center arena in downtown Omaha.
Omaha Shareholders Arrive
Thousands of shareholders are expected in Omaha for Berkshire Hathaway's weekend, and the city will start filling up before the main meeting. Visitors are expected to arrive at Eppley Airfield on Thursday, while people often wander through downtown and Blackstone as early as Wednesday.
Friday brings the first big operational checkpoint for attendees. Credentials can be picked up at CHI Health Center Arena from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., shareholder discounts run at the exhibit hall from noon to 5 p.m., and an exclusive shopping event at Borsheim's jewelry store at the Regency Shopping Center is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
CHI Health Center Saturday Schedule
7 a.m. is when doors open for the main event, with the welcome and business update scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Two Q&A sessions are planned for 9:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m., and the shareholders meeting gets underway at 2 p.m. Cameras are not permitted at the main event, so shareholders who want a live look will need to use the online stream at CNBC.com, where coverage starts at 9:15 a.m.
4 p.m. to 8 p.m. is the window for the NFM Berkshire picnic at NFM, with limited shuttle service provided for shareholders attending that event. Borsheim's continues shareholder-only shopping from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, extending the retail side of the weekend after the arena session wraps.
Baggage Rules And Pickup
4.5 x 6.5 inches is the maximum size for small purses, clutches, and wallets that may be brought into CHI Health Center arena. Other bags must be transparent and uncolored, while gallon-sized plastic freezer bags are permitted.
Luggage and backpacks can be stowed at baggage checks outside the building near Meca Drive on Friday and Saturday, with a second baggage check available Saturday near the plaza-level entrance. Shareholders can pick up credentials at CHI Health Center Arena from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and participants in Sunday's 5K can pick up packets from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Peak Performance Pop-up at 501 N. 13th St.
Saturday, April 22, marked the start of NFM's discount period, which runs through Tuesday, May 5 at stores in Des Moines, Kansas City, and Dallas/Fort Worth. For shareholders moving between the arena, downtown, and retail stops, the schedule is already stacked before Abel takes the stage at 2 p.m.
