Brighton Racecourse Moves 19 May and 26 May Fixtures to Lingfield and Bath
Brighton racecourse has moved its next two fixtures after turf damage forced more recovery time. The Tuesday 19 May meeting has gone to Lingfield, and the Tuesday 26 May card has been switched to Bath.
Lingfield and Bath take the cards
The British Horseracing Authority Course Inspectorate approved the transfers after a full turf disease report and investigation works carried out since 17 April. The decision keeps both meetings on the calendar, but not at Brighton, where the track has already lost its opening four fixtures of the season.
The revised plan splits the two meetings across different courses. That gives Brighton time to recover after the damage found last month, while Lingfield and Bath absorb the displaced fixtures.
Nematodes and leather jackets
The turf disease report and the work done since 17 April identified nematodes and leather jackets as the cause of the damage and the issues with the surface. Those findings came after Brighton was unable to run its opening four fixtures.
For regular racegoers and connections planning around the track, the immediate change is simple: the 19 May fixture is no longer at Brighton, and the 26 May meeting is no longer at Brighton either. The course now has a longer recovery window before its next scheduled use.
Friday 29 May update
An update on Brighton’s fixture on Friday 29 May will be made by the middle of next week. That leaves one more decision point for anyone tracking the course’s return to action after a month in which the damage has already forced four opening fixtures off the schedule.
