Pierre Karl Péladeau imposes 30% TVA salary cuts

pierre karl péladeau is driving a 30% salary cut at TVA for some star hosts and fiction talent, as the company tightens costs under his interim leadership of Groupe TVA. The reductions hit established performers already in place for several seasons, including actors and actresses tied to fiction series such as Indéfendable.

The new pay ceiling for actors at TVA is 3,500 $ per day of filming. Performers who had been earning more than that level had to accept lower income, while some animateurs also saw their salaries cut by 30%.

Pierre Karl Péladeau and TVA budgets

Péladeau is the interim president and chief executive officer of Groupe TVA, and the cuts sit inside a broader austerity exercise. TVA has also stopped hiring some experienced screenwriters because it cannot pay them, a sign that the pressure is reaching beyond on-air names and into the writing room.

The network has already dropped Indomptables after one season. Its producers could not agree with TVA on a smaller budget that would preserve episode quality, and other productions, including Passez au salon and Sorcières, have faced similar budget problems.

Détective Surprenant at lower cost

Détective Surprenant shows how TVA is trying to keep fiction alive while spending less. Its first season was filmed 100 % in the Îles-de-la-Madeleine, and 50 % of the second season was shot there. Caroline Gaudette said, "On est en train de se réinventer et de faire des choses à moindre coût".

The third season of Détective Surprenant has not yet been confirmed, leaving the production model itself as the clearest test of TVA's new budget line. For artists who have spent years on the network, the immediate reality is lower pay, tighter contracts, and fewer projects that can clear the financial bar.
