Geelong Adds Four Primetime Games in Rounds 16-22 — Swans Game Tonight
Geelong’s swans game tonight may be the headline search, but the bigger move is the AFL’s fixture release for Rounds 16 to 22 of the 2026 season. The Cats will get four featured timeslots across that stretch, with Thursday and Friday night football driving the back half of their home-and-away run.
Marcus King on Geelong’s block
Marcus King said the fixture block gives Geelong a chance to build momentum through the second half of the season. “We’re pleased to see a strong mix of marquee match ups and primetime exposure across the final home-and-away rounds, giving our members and supporters plenty to look forward to,” he said.
King also pointed to the club’s early form feeding into the schedule. “It’s great to see the team’s strong start to the year reflected in the schedule, with the team featuring in a host of Thursday and Friday night games that will showcase our Club in big matches on a national stage.”
GMHBA Stadium and the MCG
Geelong will host Brisbane at GMHBA Stadium in Round 17, then St Kilda at the same ground in Round 19 and Essendon in Round 22. Brisbane and St Kilda are locked in as Thursday night blockbusters, while the Essendon game falls into a Saturday twilight slot that King singled out as a strong fit for kids and families.
There is a clear split in the final stretch. Geelong gets three home games at GMHBA Stadium, but two of its biggest nights come away at the MCG, starting with Melbourne in Round 20 on Friday, 24 July and then Collingwood six days later.
GWS Giants in Round 18
Before the MCG run, Geelong travels to ENGIE Stadium for a Saturday twilight clash against GWS Giants in Round 18. That creates a tight mid-block around the home games, with Thursday and Friday night fixtures sitting alongside the away trip in Sydney.
King said the club would still back the members who make the trip and the ones who stay home. “While ideally we would have liked a better spread of timeslots for home games for our fans and members, the blockbuster Thursday night home game against the Brisbane Lions falls during school holidays and we are rapt with the Saturday twilight timeslot for the Essendon game as that has become a great timeslot particularly for kids and families.”
Supporters and the final rounds
The practical change for Geelong fans is simple: the final stretch is now mapped with four featured timeslots, three home games, and two marquee MCG matches on the calendar. Ticket information for Rounds 16 to 22 will be confirmed in the coming weeks, while the AFL will release timeslots for Rounds 23 and 24 later in the year.
King finished with the clearest read on the schedule’s pull for the club’s travelling and home supporters. “With four home games still to come in Geelong, along with two blockbuster nights at the MCG for our Melbourne-based supporters, we can’t wait to see our members and fans rally behind the team as we head into the business end of the season.”
