Sony Playstation Plus Price Hike Raises Monthly Fees to £7.99
Sony’s sony playstation plus price hike will lift basic monthly and three-month subscription prices in some regions on Wednesday 20 May. The change pushes the monthly plan to £7.99, $10.99 and €9.99, while leaving current subscribers out of the new pricing in most places.
Sony and PlayStation Plus
The basic monthly subscription rises by £1, $1 and €1. The basic three-month plan rises by £3, $3 and €3, to £21.99, $27.99 and €27.99.
PlayStation Plus is Sony’s service for online multiplayer, monthly downloadable games and exclusive PlayStation Store discounts. It has three tiers: Essential, Extra and Premium.
Turkey and India
The new prices do not apply to current subscribers except in Turkey or India unless the existing subscription changes or lapses. That leaves a narrow path for some users to stay on older pricing, but only while their current plan remains untouched.
Sony did not specify where the rises will apply. Buyers in affected regions now have a simple calculation to make before renewing: keep the current plan active, or pay the higher rate when the subscription rolls over.
PS5 price pressure
The subscription change follows earlier PlayStation price moves. In March, PlayStation said the PlayStation 5 price would rise by £90 in the UK and by $100 in the US because of continued pressures in the global economic landscape.
Sony increased the price of the PlayStation 5 console last month, and sales of the PlayStation 5 fell in the past year, according to Sony earlier this month. The subscription hike now lands on top of a console already carrying more expensive entry costs.
