Fort Worth police chief details 1 dead after Wiman Drive shooting — Fort Worth Shooting

Fort Worth police fatally shot a man on Carolyn Green’s lawn in the 4200 block of Wiman Drive after residents reported shots fired at about midnight on Saturday. Police Chief Eddie Garcia said officers confronted an armed man, ordered him to drop his gun and shot him after he pointed it toward them.

Green said the man died on her front yard in east Fort Worth after what she described as months of block parties, noise and gunfire on the next street over. She said a stray bullet hit her microwave and stopped short of going farther into her home.

Green said she had heard dozens of events that drew crowds of hundreds before Saturday, often advertised on social media. She said cars jammed the road outside her home and left yards strewn with trash, including beer cans and used sanitary products.

“It’s got to stop,” Green said of the neighborhood disturbances. She said loud music and random gunfire made it impossible to sleep, and that she had contacted police about the parties at least four or five times before Saturday.

Green said the relief after those calls usually lasted only 10 or 20 minutes. A neighborhood association had also gotten together to try to solve the problem on its own, and Green said she wanted a higher police presence on her block.

Fort Worth police response

Garcia said officers arrived after the report of shots fired during another block party at about midnight on Saturday. He said they confronted an armed man, ordered him to drop his gun, and shot him after he pointed it toward them.

Minutes later, Green heard a loud boom inside her house and found the bullet-struck microwave. She said the appliance kept the round from traveling any farther into the home.

“I saw this guy in my front yard, laying there in the grass, and I picked up my phone to call the police, not realizing they were across the street, they were the ones that were involved in the shooting,” Green said.

Wiman Drive and 2024

The Saturday shooting came in a neighborhood that residents say has already dealt with repeated disturbances. In 2024, two people were killed at a Fourth of July block party near Castleman Street and Wiman Drive.

Green said she has stayed in the home through it all. “I’m not going to let that trash run me out of my house,” she said. “I’ve been here too long.”
