Ferrari Ev Luce Debuts at 550,000 euros With Four Motors
Ferrari ev moved into a new lane on Monday when Ferrari unveiled the Luce, a four-door, five-seater EV. The car will retail for 550,000 euros, or about $640,000, and deliveries are set to begin in the fourth quarter this year.
Jony Ive and the Luce design
Jony Ive, the former Apple design chief, helped develop the Luce's design. Ferrari said the name evokes clarity and direction and is meant to create “not merely the “electric Ferrari” but an entirely new Ferrari, designed for deeper engagement and performance, with a unique and recognizable character,” a line that sets a high bar before the first customer car arrives.
Ferrari's in-house EV hardware
Ferrari says the Luce has four electric traction motors, electrically controlled active suspension, and four-wheel steering. It also says it engineered, developed, and manufactured the vehicle's main components in-house, which puts the company’s own hardware stack at the center of the pitch rather than a borrowed EV platform.
Ferrari stock after Monday
The market’s first reaction was not gentle, with Ferrari stock falling 4.3% shortly after the opening on Tuesday morning. That drop suggests investors are still testing whether a 550,000-euro EV from a brand built on two-seater sports cars can win the kind of demand Ferrari wants before deliveries start later this year.
The unanswered question is how many buyers Ferrari is actually preparing for at that price, because the company has given a delivery window but not a sales target.
