Jet 2 reports record-breaking weekend across 14 UK airports
Jet 2 said it had its busiest weekend on record, with an unprecedented number of passengers departing from UK airports for the May half-term break. Steve Heapy said the surge showed customers were taking advantage of the bank holiday weekend and that summer is very much on.
Steve Heapy on Jet2 demand
Heapy said, "This weekend saw us operate a record-breaking weekend, as customers took advantage of the bank holiday weekend and May half-term and took off to the sunshine." He also said, "Given the number of customers who travelled with us over the weekend, it is very clear how much people want to get away and enjoy their well-deserved holidays."
Jet2 was gearing up for the summer season with a fleet of 139 aircraft, flying from 14 UK airports to destinations across Europe, the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands and North Africa. The company said its update covered all flights scheduled throughout June, after worries grew that the escalating US–Iran conflict could affect global jet-fuel supplies.
June flights and jet fuel
Jet2 said it and Ryanair did not anticipate any immediate disruption to operations. Jet2 said that confidence was based on positive updates from suppliers, including increased production and additional imports of jet fuel, which it said were helping to stabilise supply despite wider uncertainty.
Heapy added, "Everything is geared up and ready for a busy summer and our message to holidaymakers is that summer is very much on." He also said, "We have always been very clear about our plans to operate as normal this summer, and the busy weekend shows just how eager customers are to get away."
For passengers booked through June, the immediate reading is simple: Jet2 is telling customers to expect normal summer operations while it continues flying a large schedule from 14 airports. The pressure point sits in fuel markets, but the airline said supplier updates were easing that concern for now.
