Trader Joe's Lawsuit Sets Tuesday Claim Deadline for $7.4 Million

Trader Joe's lawsuit claimants have until Tuesday to file for a share of the $7.4 million settlement tied to receipt-printing allegations. Eligible customers who used a credit or debit card between March 5, 2019, and July 19, 2019 may get a prorated payment if they submit a valid claim on time.

Brian Keim's July 2019 claim

Brian Keim filed the case in July 2019, saying the store violated the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act by printing receipts that displayed the first six and last four digits of credit and debit card numbers. Trader Joe's denied the allegations, saying not all of its stores printed receipts that way, before later agreeing to settle rather than keep fighting a long and expensive case.

$7,400,000 was set aside for the settlement fund, and attorneys said claimants could receive around $102 per person depending on how many valid claims arrive by Tuesday. The money is not a flat payout; it is prorated, so each approved claimant's payment depends on the number of people who file and clear the deadline.

Trader Joe's receipt window

March 5, 2019 to July 19, 2019 is the period the settlement notice singled out for customers who used credit or debit cards. A website established by the plaintiff announced the settlement in April and told customers from that window to check whether they are entitled to a claim.

The narrow date range leaves a clear cutoff for shoppers, and the deadline is the part that now matters most: only settlement class members who submit a valid and timely claim can receive a payment from the fund. Anyone who believes a qualifying purchase falls inside that window has until Tuesday to act.
