FOX 26 issues Storm Alert Monday as Austin Weather brings 2-5 inches
FOX 26 issued a Storm Alert for Monday as austin weather turns wetter across Southeast Texas, with storms and heavy downpours expected to spread through Wednesday. John Dawson said Gulf moisture is increasing humidity and wind through the week, and that setup is already bringing rain toward Greater Houston.
By Sunday evening, a Flood Advisory was in effect for parts of Harris and Montgomery County until 9:30 p.m., and the National Weather Service said 1–2 inches of rain had already fallen in the area by 7:30 p.m. Sunday. It expected another 1–2 inches after that.
John Dawson forecast
Dawson said periods of moderate to heavy rain are expected through Wednesday, with rainfall totals of 2–5 inches and isolated amounts of 6–8 inches possible through midweek. FOX 26 also said heavy downpours are expected locally from Sunday through at least Tuesday, with some storms capable of producing heavy rain in a short amount of time.
The rain threat is tied to a weak tropical low and a front dropping in from the north, both sending more moisture into the area early next week. A weak area of low pressure is also meandering along the coast of eastern Mexico, bringing disorganized showers and storms, and it could re-emerge in the Gulf Tuesday or Wednesday.
Southeast Texas flooding risk
The National Weather Service said Southeast Texas is under a 2/4 risk for street flooding on Sunday, and that threat continues through Tuesday. FOX 26 said the risk rises where showers linger or keep moving over the same areas, which is where minor flooding and quick street flooding become more likely.
FOX 26 closed its guidance with: "Make sure you are ready to get inside a building quickly if you start to see lightning or hear thunder!" For readers in Harris County, Montgomery County, and other parts of Southeast Texas, the practical step is to stay ready for sudden downpours through midweek and plan around water on roads where rain stalls.
