Josie Gibson has rejected claims that her slimmer figure came from weight loss jabs after reporting a 2.5 stone loss. She said the change followed years of dealing with lipoedema, a condition she said has affected her legs and arms.
She said the condition leaves an abnormal build-up of fat, mainly in the legs, and that she had spent £7,000 on surgery. Gibson also said there is no treatment currently available on the NHS.

Gibson said the issue was not a quick fix or a single decision. She described surgery as a last resort and said, “The last thing I want to do is put myself through surgery. But it was the last resort. What they do is like this lipo treatment then they laser it after.”
She added: “So they burn your skin on the inside so that it tightens together again. I’ve only done my calves. It’s split up into sections. You can’t do it all at once in this country. And I was too scared to have it done abroad.”
She also said: “But it’s a lot of money and time. I’ve paid over £7k for just my calves.” Gibson said it was a “light-bulb moment” when she was told, “You can’t out-train lipoedema.”

Her response follows earlier comments from Gibson about surgery on her arms. She said she had previously had liposuction on her arms and later had a brachioplasty because the lipoedema was also there.
In a video after the procedure, Gibson said: “I’ve just had about 20 messages asking how I am, so I’m so sorry I didn’t want to alarm anybody. I went in to see Paul Tulley last Friday for brachioplasty. There was nothing wrong with me. I’m really, really good, in fact.”
She added: “So for those of you who don’t know what brachioplasty is, obviously I had liposuction on my arms, and then I’ve had an arm lift, and that’s because the lipoedema is obviously on my arms as well.”

Gibson has also set out the scale of the cost in plain terms. After Ben told her, “Luckily you’re in a position where you can afford it,” she replied, “I know, and a lot of people can’t.”
