Tovah Feldshuh blasts Adam Brody comments as Erin Foster faces fallout

Erin Foster’s Nobody Wants This was already back on screens when Tovah Feldshuh moved from co-star to critic, taking aim at Adam Brody’s remarks about Gaza and Palestine. Feldshuh said the comments crossed a line in a dispute that now sits inside the show’s publicity cycle, not outside it.

Brody told GQ in September, “Put me down as thinking it’s a genocide” and “Put me down as wanting a free Palestine.” Feldshuh answered by telling The Post, “To accuse the Jewish people of genocide is wild,” then added, “It’s right out of Hitler’s playbook.”

September GQ remarks

Brody’s two quotes did the heavy lifting here. He did not hedge: he said he thinks “it’s a genocide” and said he wants “a free Palestine,” putting a political position into the public conversation around Nobody Wants This and his character, Noah Roklov. That matters because the show’s reach gives the comments a larger audience than a private exchange ever would.

On Oct. 22, Nobody Wants This returned for Season 3, which made the reaction land against an active release cycle rather than a dormant one. Brody plays the progressive California rabbi Noah Roklov, while Feldshuh plays his mother, Bina, so the argument now sits inside a series already being discussed as a battleground over Jewish identity and Israel.

Feldshuh’s line in response

Feldshuh did not frame Brody’s remarks as a policy dispute. She cast them as an accusation aimed at Jews collectively, saying, “You take the victim and you make the victim the perpetrator.” She also said accusations of genocide make a difference to the Jewish community, and argued that people with large platforms do the most damage when they feed followers falsehoods.

She went further, saying, “I believe that the perseverance of the existence of the state of Israel is crucial to the well-being of the democratic world and of the free world.” Her view, in other words, is not just that Brody overstated the case; it is that his framing shifts blame onto the people he is talking about. That is the fault line running through the dispute.

Erin Foster and the show

Steve Leder, the senior rabbi emeritus of Wilshire Boulevard Temple in Los Angeles, also called Brody’s comments truly shocking and disgusting in an Instagram video. But the sharper business story is that Nobody Wants This now carries a public argument into its Season 3 run, with Erin Foster attached to a title that is drawing attention for reasons beyond the script.

Feldshuh’s own summary is the one that best captures the line she is drawing. She said, “We’re in a time where we have the ‘horseshoe effect,’ where socialism and antisemitism are trying to meet.” That is the kind of language that leaves little room for a soft landing, and it makes the series’ off-screen debate as visible as anything happening in the episodes themselves.
