Bangor-Brewer Parade Celebrates Local Veterans

The Bangor-Brewer Veterans Day Parade took place on a Tuesday morning, honoring local veterans and their service to the country. The annual event began at the Brewer Shopping Center and concluded in Downtown Bangor, drawing crowds eager to express gratitude for the sacrifices made by military personnel.

• Zeny Robbins, a resident of Milford, has participated annually to honor her late husband, a Navy veteran.
• Robbins expressed her love for her husband, saying, “I promised him that I’m going to honor you every year on Veterans Day.”
• She poignantly shared that it has been 12 years since his passing, yet her dedication remains strong.

Veterans Share Their Stories

Gerald Bartlett, a 90-year-old Navy veteran from Newburgh, joined the parade for the first time. He reflected on his two-decade military career, which included service in multiple wars. Bartlett recounted, “I was on two aircraft carriers, two destroyers, and a radar picket ship,” showcasing his dedication and experiences.

Engaging the Next Generation

The parade also served as an educational opportunity for younger attendees. Families brought children to learn about the importance of Veterans Day. Amelia, a young girl from Brewer, expressed her admiration for veterans, saying, “My dad’s a veteran, and now he is a Brewer firefighter.”
