Meta Postpones Launch of ‘Phoenix’ Mixed Reality Glasses
Meta has announced a delay in the launch of its upcoming mixed reality glasses, codenamed “Phoenix.” Originally scheduled for release in the second half of 2026, the new target date has been pushed back to the first half of 2027.
Details Behind the Delay
In a memo shared with employees, Maher Saba, the Vice President of Reality Labs Foundation, stated that the revised timeline will allow the team to enhance the product’s quality. This decision was also echoed by metaverse leaders Gabriel Aul and Ryan Cairns, who noted that the additional time would ensure a more polished user experience.
Features of the ‘Phoenix’ Glasses
The “Phoenix” glasses are designed with a goggle-like form factor. They will be powered by an external device, referred to as a puck, which aims to maintain a lighter and more comfortable experience for users while preventing overheating.

Company’s Strategic Focus
During a recent meeting, CEO Mark Zuckerberg emphasized the importance of making the business sustainable. This directive has led Reality Labs to reassess their plans for 2026, focusing on delivering high-quality experiences rather than rushing to include additional features.
Future Developments
In addition to the “Phoenix” mixed reality glasses, Meta is working on another wearable device known as “Malibu 2,” set for release in 2026. Furthermore, the company is developing a next-generation Quest device aimed at enhancing immersive gaming experiences. This new product is expected to significantly improve performance compared to current models.
Budgetary Adjustments
Meta is also considering budget cuts of up to 30% within its Reality Labs division. These changes may impact teams involved in the development of its virtual spaces platform, Horizon Worlds.
Recent Acquisitions
In a move to expand its capabilities, Meta has recently acquired Limitless, an AI startup specializing in AI-powered devices. This acquisition aligns with Meta’s ongoing commitment to integrating advanced technology into its products.
