Lithium-Ion Battery Cautions
Lithium-ion batteries are common in electronics, appliances, and various tools, but they carry a risk of overheating and fires. According to the National Fire Protection Association, users should stop using any lithium-ion battery product if they notice:
- Unusual odors
- Color changes
- Excessive heat
- Alterations in shape
- Leaks
- Strange noises
Proper Disposal Guidelines
Due to fire hazards, lithium-ion batteries should not be discarded in regular trash or recycling bins. Instead, the CPSC advises contacting local municipal household hazardous waste (HHW) collection centers for appropriate disposal methods.
