DC Gas Prices Remain High Despite National Average Drop
In the D.C. area, gas prices remain notably high despite a national trend of declining fuel costs. According to a recent AAA fuel report, the average price for gasoline in Washington, D.C. is $3.17 per gallon. This positions the city as the seventh most expensive gasoline market in the United States.
National Trends in Gas Prices
While drivers in D.C. face elevated prices, the national average for regular gasoline has dropped to $2.89. This represents the lowest December gas prices since 2020. The decline in national prices is attributed to an increase in gasoline supply and stable crude oil prices, even as demand rises with the holiday season approaching.
Gasoline Demand and Supply
- National gasoline demand increased from 8.45 million to 9.07 million barrels per day.
- Domestic gasoline supply rose to 225.6 million barrels.
- Gasoline production averaged 9.6 million barrels per day last week.
Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging in Maryland
The report also highlighted electric vehicle charging costs in Maryland. Drivers using public EV charging stations in the state pay approximately 32 cents per kilowatt-hour. This pricing ranks Maryland among the ten least expensive states in the U.S. for electric vehicle charging.
As the holiday travel season heats up, the disparity between D.C. gas prices and national averages continues to raise concerns among local drivers. With steady supply and lower crude oil prices acting as buffers, the situation may remain unchanged for the foreseeable future.
