Powerball Jackpot Soars to $1.6 Billion for Next Drawing

The Powerball jackpot has surged to an impressive $1.6 billion, marking the fourth-largest prize in the game’s history. This increase follows the most recent drawing, which occurred Saturday night without a winner. The winning numbers drawn were 4, 5, 28, 52, and 69, along with a Powerball of 20.

Jackpot Details

The estimated cash value for this massive jackpot stands at $735.3 million. Despite no one matching all six numbers, eight tickets beat the odds by matching five out of the six winning numbers. The holders of these tickets will receive a prize of $1 million each, with one ticket purchased in California qualifying for a different prize structure.

Notable Prizes from Recent Drawings

  • 112 tickets won $50,000 prizes.
  • 22 tickets won $150,000 prizes.

Matt Strawn, chair of the Powerball Product Group and CEO of the Iowa Lottery, said, “Powerball is giving players a chance to dream bigger than ever this holiday season.”

Current Jackpot History

The upcoming drawing will be the 46th without a jackpot winner, setting a record for the length of time without a win. The last jackpot was claimed on September 6, when a $1.787 billion prize was won in Missouri and Texas.

How to Win and Odds

To win the grand prize, players must match all five white balls and the red Powerball. A single jackpot winner has the option to take a lump sum payment of approximately $735.3 million or choose an annuity that includes one immediate payment followed by 29 yearly increases of 5%.

The odds of winning the top prize currently stand at 1 in 292.2 million. However, lottery jackpots have grown significantly in size over the past decade, driving increased interest among players. Drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 11 p.m. ET.

Powerball’s History

Since its inception in 1992, Powerball has grown to become a popular lottery, with tickets available in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Tickets are sold for $2 each, providing players a chance to win life-changing sums of money.

In 2022, a historic ticket sold in Altadena, California secured a record-breaking $2.04 billion jackpot, establishing the highest winning amount in Powerball and lottery history.
