HCA Converts Closed Red Lobster into Henrico Urgent Care Clinic

HCA Healthcare is expanding its presence in eastern Henrico by converting a former Red Lobster restaurant into an urgent care clinic. The property, located at 4415 S. Laburnum Avenue, will house a CareNow urgent care facility.

Details of the Urgent Care Clinic

The 7,200-square-foot space is part of the White Oak Village shopping center. Renovations are planned to transform the existing restaurant into a fully equipped clinic, expected to be operational by 2026.

  • Location: 4415 S. Laburnum Ave.
  • Facility Type: CareNow urgent care clinic
  • Size: 7,200 square feet
  • Target Opening Year: 2026

Investment and Strategic Goals

This project is part of HCA’s $5 million investment plan to establish three new urgent care clinics in the Richmond area over the next few years. HCA aims to enhance healthcare accessibility for local communities.

HCA spokesman Wes Hester emphasized that the initiative is designed to bring high-quality care closer to residents’ homes and workplaces. Furthermore, the company plans another CareNow location in Chester.

Background on HCA’s Urgent Care Expansion

HCA entered the local urgent care sector in 2022 by acquiring BetterMed and rebranding those locations as CareNow. The clinics are tailored to address minor injuries and illnesses.

Real Estate and Market Context

The lease for the former Red Lobster was negotiated by Matt Hamilton of CBRE, representing HCA. The landlord, Hedgebase AI, acquired the property for $3.8 million earlier in November.

Additionally, other nearby restaurants within the shopping center are undergoing similar transitions. The TGI Fridays at 4459 S. Laburnum Ave., which closed in October, is also set for redevelopment.

Competitors in the Area

HCA is not the only health system enhancing urgent care facilities in Henrico. Bon Secours has opened clinics, including one located just a mile away at 4835 S. Laburnum Ave., which began operations in October.

The growing urgent care market in Henrico reflects the increasing demand for accessible healthcare services in the community.
