Kent Restaurant Distributes Hundreds of Free Christmas Meals

Nana’s Southern Kitchen in Kent, Washington, proudly hosted its annual Christmas meal giveaway, ensuring that hundreds of individuals enjoyed a festive holiday meal. This tradition reflects the restaurant’s commitment to community service and family values, offering meals without questions or judgment.

Kent Restaurant’s Holiday Mission

The Operations Manager, Kyan Minor, emphasized the restaurant’s philosophy: “If you’re hungry, that’s what we’re here to do.” Kyan, the great-granddaughter of the restaurant’s namesake, Myrtle Henderson, known as Nana, carries on a legacy of southern hospitality in the Pacific Northwest.

Community Support

This year marked the sixth consecutive Christmas that Nana’s Southern Kitchen has organized the meal giveaway. The event draws significant support from local businesses, with donations from Microsoft and other private contributors. Meals included a variety of hot dishes, such as:

  • Chicken wings
  • Catfish
  • Pork chops
  • Several side dishes

On the day of the event, the Minor family, spanning four generations, joined volunteers from across Western Washington to fulfill the mission of sharing love through food.

Record-Breaking Meals

The Minor family initially aimed to distribute 730 free meals this Christmas. However, they were delighted to see that the actual number was closer to 1,000. Over the past three years, they have consistently served between 1,000 and 1,700 meals each Christmas.

Through this initiative, Nana’s Southern Kitchen has not only fed the hungry but also reinforced the spirit of giving and community during the holiday season.
