Iconic Lehigh Valley Furniture Store Closing After 50 Years
Unclaimed Freight, a furniture store located at 2260 Industrial Drive in Bethlehem, is set to close its doors after 50 years of service. The store has been a prominent destination in the Lehigh Valley for sofas, dining room sets, and other home furnishings. According to manager Robert Hahn, who has been with the company for 48 years, the closing sale began on January 1 and features substantial discounts.
Significant Savings Ahead
The store closing sale includes markdowns on furniture and home décor items. Customers can find steep reductions on lamps, mirrors, area rugs, and artwork. Signs proclaiming “wall to wall savings” and “everything must go!” are prominently displayed throughout the store. All sales will be final, and store fixtures are also up for sale.
A Legacy of Service
Unclaimed Freight was founded in 1971 by Joseph Colabella, who previously operated a home décor shop called Unclaimed Salvage & Freight. Colabella’s legacy continues through his nephew, Robert Hahn. The company once boasted more than a dozen stores across states like Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Missouri.
Hahn expressed gratitude for the support shown by the Lehigh Valley community, stating, “We’ve loved serving everyone.” The Bethlehem location is now the last operational store of Unclaimed Freight as the owners prepare to retire.
About the Founder
Joseph Colabella, who passed away in 2022 at the age of 91, was known for his hardworking nature. He continued to work until his 80s. His family, originally from Italy, helped him establish a beloved local business. The company aimed to provide quality brand-name furniture at competitive prices, often selling items at discounts of up to 70% off retail prices.
