Donut Lab has unveiled the world’s first production-ready all-solid-state battery. This innovative battery is designed to transform the electric vehicle (EV) landscape, promising rapid charging and enhanced energy efficiency.

Revolutionary Battery Technology

The all-solid-state battery features a liquid-less design, which provides nearly double the energy density compared to conventional Tesla batteries. It boasts an energy density of 400 watt-hours per kilogram (Wh/kg) and can be fully charged in just five minutes. Additionally, it can withstand up to 100,000 charging cycles without requiring a limit on the charging percentage.

Performance Comparison

When compared to traditional lithium-ion batteries, which typically have an energy density ranging from 250 to 300 Wh/kg, Donut Lab’s battery outperforms significantly. Standard lithium-ion batteries often last only up to 5,000 full cycles and limit charging to 80% of their total capacity.

Durability and Temperature Resistance

  • Maintains over 99% capacity at temperatures as low as -22°F (-30°C) and as high as 212°F (100°C).
  • Will not ignite upon damage, enhancing safety for users.

Global Production and Accessibility

Donut Lab claims its all-solid-state batteries can be built globally, as the materials required are abundant and not rare. This accessibility aims to alleviate concerns over supply chain stability and geopolitical tensions. In addition, the company asserts these batteries can be manufactured at a lower cost than existing lithium-ion solutions.

Real-World Application

The practical use of Donut’s technology can be observed in Verge Motorcycles’ updated TS Pro electric motorcycle, which is set to be the first EV to utilize this breakthrough battery. The previous model featured a conventional lithium-ion battery that provided a range of 217 miles with a charging time of under 35 minutes. However, the new solid-state version also offers a 217-mile range, with a larger battery option extending it to 370 miles. Remarkably, the charging time has been cut to less than 10 minutes.

Future Prospects

Marko Lehtimäki, CEO of Donut Lab, emphasizes the urgent readiness of their all-solid-state battery for integration into OEM production vehicles. This innovation is not just a promise but is already available for real-world deployment.

The battery will be showcased at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, starting January 6, highlighting its potential to shift the dynamics of electric mobility and sustainability.
