AT&T has announced its plans to relocate its global headquarters from Downtown Dallas to Plano within the next three years. The decision, confirmed by AT&T President and CEO John Stankey, followed a year of discussions aimed at enhancing the employee experience.

New Headquarters Details

The new facility will be situated at 5400 Legacy Drive in Plano, near the bustling shopping and dining area of Legacy West. Spanning 54 acres, this location aims to consolidate AT&T’s existing administrative spaces throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. This includes three major sites in Central Dallas, Plano, and Irving.

Focus on Collaboration and Growth

Stankey emphasized that the new corporate campus is designed to foster collaboration, innovation, and engagement among employees. Although the company is moving its headquarters, it remains committed to maintaining its presence in the DFW metroplex.

Reactions from Dallas Officials

  • Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson: Acknowledged that the move reflects AT&T’s need for more space and a shift in its corporate culture. He noted that Dallas has grown into a global economic hub since AT&T’s previous relocation in 2008.
  • City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert: Agreed with the Mayor’s sentiments and highlighted Dallas’s achievements in business retention, citing the upcoming Goldman Sachs campus as an example.

Both officials remarked on the need for a horizontal campus layout that aligns with AT&T’s current leadership preferences. Johnson remarked on their urban center’s appeal while emphasizing that the move creates opportunities for adjustments and growth.

AT&T’s Legacy in Dallas

Since moving to Downtown Dallas in 2008, AT&T has significantly contributed to the local economy. The company has invested hundreds of millions of dollars and played a crucial role in creating thousands of jobs for Dallas residents.

Jennifer Scripps, the president and CEO of Downtown Dallas, Inc., expressed optimism for the future, stating that the transition opens up new opportunities for development and innovation.

Timeline for the Move

AT&T officials have indicated that the transition to the new headquarters is targeted for completion by the second half of 2028. The company aims to ensure a smooth relocation while remaining an integral part of the Dallas community.
