The public prosecutor’s office in Bordeaux announced the investigation on January 23, 2026, just two days after health authorities began their inquiry. Bordeaux prosecutor Renaud Gaudeul reported that the infant was fed the formula after being discharged from the maternity hospital between January 5 and 7, 2026.
Health Concerns and Recalls
The formula in question had been recalled earlier in January due to potential contamination with Bacillus cereus, a harmful bacterium. Gaudeul emphasized that analyses would be conducted to check for the presence of the bacteria in the milk the infant consumed.
As part of precautionary measures, Nestlé had recalled the specific batch of milk powder from the market after Bacillus cereus was detected in some samples. The recall was a proactive step to ensure consumer safety.
