Orox Leather, Missionary Chocolates Close; Mikiko Mochi, Ecovibe Open at Portland Airport

Portland International Airport (PDX) is welcoming two new vendors as part of its Pop-Up Program. This initiative highlights local businesses and allows travelers to experience a taste of Portland before boarding their flights.

Transitioning Vendors at PDX

On February 27, 2024, the existing kiosks of Orox Leather Co. and Missionary Chocolates will close. These two businesses, which opened in August 2023, introduced travelers to unique local offerings. As they exit, Mikiko Mochi Donuts and Ecovibe will take their places starting in March 2024.

Mikiko Mochi Donuts: A Unique Sweet Treat

  • Mikiko Mochi Donuts was founded by Alex McGillivray and Emily Mikiko Strocher.
  • The business specializes in mochi doughnuts made with rice flour and coconut milk.
  • The mochi doughnuts are gluten-free and provide delicious options for travelers with dietary restrictions.

Originally launched as a pop-up during the pandemic, Mikiko has relocated its operations to a “micro” bakery in Bethany Village after closing its Beaverton location.

Ecovibe: Sustainable Home Goods

  • Ecovibe is a family-owned business that began in 2010.
  • It started as a sustainable clothing boutique and now features a flagship store on Northeast Alberta Street.
  • Owned by Leanord and Andrea Allen, the store focuses on eco-friendly home decor, indoor plants, and local artisans.

Andrea Allen expressed that Ecovibe aims to uplift other local makers, providing items that inspire and beautify everyday life.

Supporting Local Businesses at PDX

The Port of Portland estimates that passengers spend around $127 million annually at airport concessions. Abby Carey, PDX’s concessions development manager, emphasized the importance of investing in local talent. She believes the Pop-Up Program boosts brand awareness and supports sustainable growth for these entrepreneurs.

As PDX continues to evolve, travelers can look forward to enjoying the specialties of both Mikiko Mochi Donuts and Ecovibe in the coming months. This transition represents PDX’s commitment to showcasing the best of Portland’s local businesses while offering passengers memorable experiences during their travels.
