Mind Robotics Secures $500M for AI-Powered Industrial Robots Spin-Out from Rivian
Mind Robotics, a robotics startup spun out from the electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian, has successfully secured $500 million in a recent Series A funding round. This initiative was co-led by prominent venture capital firms Accel and Andreessen Horowitz.
Funding and Valuation Details
The announcement came on a Wednesday, marking a significant milestone in the company’s short existence. This new funding round follows a previous seed investment of $115 million from Eclipse in late 2025, escalating Mind Robotics’ total funding to $615 million within a few months of its establishment. According to The Wall Street Journal, the startup’s current valuation has reached approximately $2 billion.
Foundational Leadership
RJ Scaringe, founder and CEO of Rivian, played a crucial role in the creation of Mind Robotics. The startup was officially launched in November 2025, with Scaringe serving as chairman. His vision is to harness data from Rivian’s electric vehicle manufacturing processes to enhance the dexterity and adaptability of industrial robots.
Addressing Gaps in Industrial Automation
Mind Robotics aims to bridge significant gaps in existing industrial automation solutions. The startup is focused on developing robots that can perform complex tasks requiring human-like dexterity and physical reasoning—capabilities that traditional robotics have struggled to address. The company is building an AI infrastructure, including models, hardware, and deployment systems.
Future Deployment Plans
Scaringe has indicated that a substantial number of the newly developed robots are expected to be deployed by the end of this year. He has emphasized a focus on conventional factory robots rather than the more sensational humanoid robots, which have dominated recent media coverage. “Doing cartwheels does not create value in manufacturing,” he stated in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.
Collaboration with Rivian
As Mind Robotics progresses, potential collaboration opportunities with Rivian could arise. In December, Rivian revealed its efforts in developing custom silicon to enhance its autonomous vehicle software. Scaringe noted that it’s plausible for Rivian to provide these specialized chips to Mind Robotics, given their suitability for robotics processors.
Spin-Out Context
Mind Robotics is the second company to be spun out from Rivian in 2025. The first was a venture named Also, focused on high-end modular e-bikes and small electric delivery vehicles for Amazon. Also has raised an additional $200 million from Greenoaks Capital, bringing its current valuation to around $1 billion.
