Ford Renames Carroll Shelby Way Campus Streets

Ford Renames Carroll Shelby Way Campus Streets

Ford is undergoing significant renovations at its world headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan. As part of this transformation, the company will rename two streets that currently honor the legendary racer Carroll Shelby. The changes will take effect in May.

Street Name Changes at Ford Campus

Carroll Shelby Way West will be renamed Raptor Way, while Carroll Shelby Way East will become Navigator Avenue. This initiative is part of Ford’s strategy to reflect its current product focus, shifting towards performance trucks and SUVs.

Renovation Overview

The street renaming coincides with plans to convert Ford’s Product Development Center into a modern workspace. The renovation project includes:

  • New labs and meeting spaces
  • Ford Racing offices
  • Employee fitness center

Additionally, Village Road will become Mustang Alley, and South Pond Road will be renamed Bronco Bend. The entire renovation project is set for completion in 2029.

Background on Carroll Shelby Way

The name Carroll Shelby Way was established in 2012, following Shelby’s passing in May of the same year. Ford received approval from the City of Dearborn to honor Shelby’s legacy then. Initially, the street names served as a daily reminder of Shelby’s impact on Ford.

Current Strategic Focus

Ford’s decision to rename the streets reflects its current emphasis on trucks and SUVs. The Ford F-150 remains the best-selling light-duty vehicle in the United States, with profitable variants like the Raptor and Lincoln Navigator leading the market.

While Carroll Shelby held a legendary status with Ford in the past, the automaker has since moved toward new types of performance vehicles. The past partnership saw Shelby’s involvement with Mustang before his name was more recently linked to Shelby American.

The move away from the Shelby name in relation to the Mustang signifies Ford’s focus on redefining its brand in the modern automotive landscape. As renovations continue, the company aims to create a campus that aligns with its evolving business strategy.
