Lucid Motors Appoints New CEO, Secures Additional Funding

Lucid Motors has announced significant leadership changes and new funding initiatives aimed at strengthening its future outlook. The company has appointed Silvio Napoli as its new CEO, a strategic move following the departure of former CEO Peter Rawlinson in February 2025.

Appointment of New CEO

Silvio Napoli will replace interim CEO Marc Winterhoff, who will revert to his role as Chief Operating Officer. Napoli comes to Lucid from the Schindler Group, a company known for its manufacturing of elevators and escalators. His background in large-scale global operations and expertise in manufacturing positions him as a potential asset for the automaker.

Expertise and Experience

Napoli’s experience includes:

  • Leading complex market operations globally.
  • Achieving manufacturing excellence and cost discipline.
  • Building high-performing organizations.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Napoli emphasized his industrial experience as crucial for developing a strong automotive brand.

Challenges Ahead for Lucid Motors

Lucid Motors continues to face challenges as it strives to scale production effectively. Despite the technological success of vehicles like the Lucid Air and Gravity, the company has struggled to achieve the production volumes necessary for profitability.

To address these issues, Lucid is set to launch the new Cosmos and Earth EV models, priced around $50,000, with production beginning later this year. Additionally, the company has made workforce reductions, laying off 12% of its employees to manage operational costs.

New Funding Initiatives

In tandem with leadership changes, Lucid Motors has secured crucial funding to ensure its financial stability. The Saudi Public Investment Fund has committed to purchasing an additional $550 million in shares. Moreover, Uber is increasing its investment in Lucid by $200 million, raising its total investment to $500 million.

Future Collaboration with Uber

As part of this partnership, Uber will increase its order for Gravity SUVs for use in its robotaxi operations, escalating from 20,000 to at least 35,000 units.

Transition Period for New CEO

Napoli’s transition into the CEO role will not be immediate. He is currently in Switzerland and will relocate to the U.S. after completing the visa process. Winterhoff will continue as interim CEO until Napoli can officially take over in the coming weeks.

With these strategic changes, Lucid Motors aims to enhance its position in the competitive electric vehicle market.
