Walmart Revamps 650+ Stores, Opens 20 New Locations

Walmart has unveiled an extensive plan to remodel over 650 stores across the United States. The retail giant also aims to open around 20 new locations in 2026 and early 2027. This initiative builds upon Walmart’s commitment to launch or convert more than 150 locations by 2024.

Investment to Boost Local Economies

Walmart’s investment in store remodeling and new openings is multi-faceted. The company emphasizes that these efforts will create jobs, enhance local economies, and streamline the shopping experience for customers.

Enhancements in Store Design

  • Wider aisles and updated layouts
  • New displays featuring expanded product assortments
  • Improved pickup and delivery services, including express options
  • Refreshed interiors and exteriors with enhanced landscaping and parking
  • Introduction of digital touchpoints to assist in-store shoppers

The remodeled stores will also see significant updates to vision centers and pharmacies, incorporating private consultation rooms for customers. Additionally, Walmart’s Neighborhood Markets will feature enhanced deli options, pharmacy delivery services, and upgraded areas for online grocery pickups.

Quick Renovation Process

Certain Neighborhood Markets are undergoing rapid remodels aimed at minimizing disruption for customers while expediting improvements.

New Store Openings in 2025-2027

This year, Walmart opened several new Supercenters in locations including:

  • Eastvale, California
  • Apollo Beach, Florida
  • Jacksonville, Florida
  • The Villages, Florida
  • Ocala, Florida (Neighborhood Market)

Moreover, Walmart is planning further expansions. By late 2023, a Supercenter in Tucson, Arizona, will be expanded, alongside a new Supercenter in Celina, Texas. In 2025, nine additional stores debuted in Alabama, California, Florida, New Jersey, Texas, and Utah.

Commitment to Quality and Value

Walmart’s recent store projects align with a broader strategy to enhance its product offerings. The retailer announced a significant redesign of its Great Value label, impacting nearly 10,000 food and household items. This refresh marks the brand’s first major update in over a decade.

The company’s goal remains clear: to make shopping easier, more intuitive, and connected while providing the everyday low prices customers have come to expect.
