Meta and CBRE Boost U.S. Employment with Fiber Technician Training Program

In response to the increasing demand for data center projects, a significant initiative is being launched to train fiber technicians in the United States. The LevelUp Fiber Technician Pathway is a free four-week program created to address the nationwide shortage of skilled workers in this essential field.

Collaboration with CBRE

This initiative is a partnership between Meta and CBRE, a global leader in real estate and critical infrastructure services. The program aims to equip participants with the necessary technical skills needed to thrive in high-demand fiber technician roles across the construction and data center sectors.

Training for Future Success

The LevelUp curriculum incorporates classroom discussions, hands-on labs, and team activities. This approach focuses on teaching transferable skills that align with trainees’ long-term career goals. Graduates will have the opportunity to secure positions at construction sites throughout the country via Meta’s contractor network.

Opportunities for Everyone

  • Open to recent high school graduates and mid-career professionals.
  • Field expansion includes construction and data center jobs.

Infrastructure Development

Meta is actively involved in the construction of 27 data centers across the U.S. Since 2010, these projects have created over 30,000 skilled trades jobs during construction and around 5,000 permanent operational roles, including site managers and engineers.

Economic Impact

Building and operating data centers generate billions of dollars in revenue for American businesses each year. This support ranges from major manufacturers, like Corning, which produces fiber optic cables domestically, to various subcontractors in the local areas of the data centers.

Bob Sulentic, Chair and CEO of CBRE, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Meta, stating a commitment to leveraging their expertise to train a capable workforce. The LevelUp program is also part of a wider community engagement strategy, which includes the Data Center Community Action Grant Program that funds local initiatives.

Upcoming Training Cohorts

The first cohorts for the LevelUp program are set to commence this summer. Interested individuals are encouraged to learn more about the application process and participate in this pivotal initiative that promises to invest in America’s skilled workforce.
