Mercedes Unveils Sportiest All-Electric C-Class Model Yet
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its latest all-electric model, the C 400 4MATIC, which aims to redefine expectations for the C-Class line. This vehicle features an 800-volt architecture designed for enhanced efficiency and long-distance travel, with an impressive estimated range of up to 762 kilometers (473 miles) on the WLTP cycle. As the brand describes it, this is the “sportiest C-Class ever,” combining performance with comfort reminiscent of the S-Class.
Groundbreaking Electric Performance
The C 400 4MATIC is a significant milestone for Mercedes as it represents the first time the C-Class nameplate is associated with a dedicated battery-electric vehicle. It boasts a remarkable output of 360 kW, equivalent to approximately 483 horsepower. This power allows the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in roughly four seconds.
Charging Capabilities
Efficiency is further highlighted by the vehicle’s rapid charging capabilities. The C-Class can add up to 325 kilometers (202 miles) of range in just ten minutes at a 330 kW DC fast charging station.
Advanced Technology Features
One standout feature of the C 400 4MATIC is its two-speed transmission, which enhances acceleration and efficiency. While most EVs rely on a single gear, this system allows for improved performance. Additionally, it includes a disconnect unit for the front motor to enhance energy savings during steady cruising by automatically switching to a rear-wheel-drive configuration.
Innovative Suspension System
The vehicle is equipped with an advanced air suspension system that utilizes Google Maps and subscription-based “Car-to-X” communication. This system anticipates road bumps and adjusts the suspension in milliseconds to ensure a smooth ride.
Smart Driving Technology
Mercedes’ MB.Drive Assist Pro delivers “point-to-point” assisted driving capabilities in regions where regulatory approval has been granted. This system utilizes Nvidia’s AI chips, positioning it as a competitor to Tesla’s Full Self-Driving technology.
Luxurious Interior Experience
Inside, the C-Class features a dashboard dominated by the 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen, which enhances graphics through the Unity game engine. Buyers can opt for a panoramic roof with illuminated stars that can change from transparent to opaque instantly. Premium trims offer a Burmester 4D Surround Sound System, which includes speakers integrated into the seats for an immersive auditory experience.
AI-Driven Infotainment
The vehicle comes with a range of AI-powered features within its infotainment system. The virtual assistant capabilities include technologies from ChatGPT and Google Gemini. Although the system does not use Android, it integrates native Google Maps with “Electric Intelligence,” optimizing route planning based on real-time data.
Future of Electric Vehicles
The C 400 4MATIC is part of Mercedes’ broader strategy to accelerate its electric vehicle offerings. The company is expected to debut additional EV models, including updates to the GLC SUV and the EQS lineup. While Mercedes has hinted at a future shift to a fully electric lineup, it remains committed to offering a variety of powertrain options, including plug-in hybrids.
