Judge Approves $7.85 Million Sony Playstation Lawsuit Settlement
A judge in the Northern District of California approved a preliminary $7.85 million sony playstation lawsuit settlement on April 8. The case could put money back in the hands of U.S. customers who bought certain digital games through the PlayStation Network between April 1, 2019, and December 31, 2023.
Northern District of California
The class-action lawsuit was filed in 2023 and accuses Sony of monopolizing the market by restricting third-party games on its platform. The settlement amount is $7,850,000, and Sony is required to pay roughly $7.8 million to eligible buyers in the United States.
Eligible PlayStation Network purchases
Named examples of eligible purchases include WWE 2K17, WWE 2K18, WWE 2K19, No Man’s Sky, Super Mega Baseball, The Last of Us Remastered, Until Dawn, NBA 2K18, NBA 2K19, the Mass Effect Trilogy, and Madden NFL 17. The list also extends beyond those examples, which means buyers will need the full eligibility rules before assuming a game purchase qualifies.
Saveri Law Firm
The Saveri Law Firm announced the settlement through a press release on April 29. For players, the practical question is whether a specific purchase sits inside the April 1, 2019 to December 31, 2023 window and falls into the game titles covered by the settlement class.
