McDonald’s Adds Three Refreshers Ahead of May 6 Mcdonalds Menu Launch

McDonald’s is adding three new Refreshers to the mcdonalds menu before a May 6 launch, moving further into the handcrafted beverage arena with drinks built for customization. The line gives customers a caffeinated option they can order with lemonade or water, plus a new sip lid shared with the dirty sodas arriving at the same time.

Justine Sterling Tasted Them Early

Justine Sterling, who visited McDonald’s Global Headquarters for an early taste test, wrote that “McDonald’s is stepping into the handcrafted beverage arena with three new refreshers.” Her sample run matters because it shows the chain is not just adding flavors; it is pairing the drinks with a specific serving format and a lid designed for the new beverage push.

65mg of caffeine comes in a regular size, while a large has 80mg, and that amount does not change if the drinks are ordered sans ice. The ice is added last, so the caffeine level stays fixed whether the cup is filled with it or not. For customers choosing a drink for an afternoon boost, the size decision matters more than the ice decision.

Blackberry, Mango, Strawberry

Three flavors make up the launch: one with blackberry and passion fruit, one with freeze-dried dragon fruit pieces, and one with mango and pineapple flavors with strawberry popping boba. All three can be made with lemonade or water, and the reviewed samples at headquarters were made with lemonade. That gives the same base drink two different ways to land on the menu, depending on how much sweetness a customer wants.

One refresher includes freeze-dried strawberry pieces, and Sterling said the reviewer’s split on texture was plain: “These three McDonald’s refreshers really pulled off the Goldilocks combo: The freeze-dried dragon fruit bits were too small, the strawberry slices were too big, and the popping boba was just right.” The mango pineapple refresher used authentic mango and pineapple flavors, while the strawberry popping boba were described as the smallest the reviewer had ever seen.

Sip Lid Changes The Order

The bright red refresher was topped with impressively large pieces of freeze-dried strawberry, but those pieces were difficult to get through the sip lid. That friction point is part of the launch itself: the same lid is being used across the Refreshers and the dirty sodas, so the new menu is not just about flavor but about how the drinks move through the cup.

May 6 is the date that turns the test run into a real menu change, and the practical choice for customers is already clear. Pick lemonade for a sweeter profile, water for a lighter one, and a size based on whether 65mg or 80mg of caffeine fits the order.
