Air Canada Jet Fuel Shortage Cuts 4 U.S. Routes Early

Air Canada jet fuel shortage cuts are hitting four summer U.S. routes early as the airline trims service to cope with higher fuel costs. The first changes start July 29 and run through Sept. 7. Affected passengers will be moved to alternate travel options or get a full refund where applicable.

July 29 to Sept. 7 changes

Four routes are ending before their seasonal schedule runs out: Vancouver to Raleigh, N.C., on July 29; Toronto to Sacramento, Calif., on Aug. 1; Charleston, S.C., on Sept. 6; and Montreal to Austin, Texas, on Sept. 7. Air Canada said the decision reflects the current price of jet fuel, which has climbed after shortages tied to the war in Iran.

The airline also said the seasonal flights will resume next summer. For travelers booked on the affected routes, the practical issue is not the headline cut itself but the rebooking path: the carrier said customers will be contacted with alternate travel options, including full refunds where applicable.

Toronto and Montreal to JFK

The carrier had already suspended other flights from Toronto and Montreal to New York’s JFK International airport between early June and late October. That earlier step shows the current cuts are not isolated; they extend a schedule reset already underway on some U.S. service.

WestJet and Air Transat have also cut flights in recent weeks as the conflict in Iran and the Strait of Hormuz oil blockade pushed jet fuel prices higher. If fuel costs hold at current levels, the summer network changes suggest airlines are protecting margins by pulling back the least durable seasonal flying first.
