Ford lifts Oakville investment to nearly $5 billion for Ford F-series Super Duty

Ford says retooling at its Oakville, Ontario plant is nearly complete and pre-production has started for the ford f-series super duty, putting the project’s investment near $5 billion. The company’s Canadian spokesman said employees have begun returning in greater numbers as very early Super Duty builds get underway.

Matt Drennan-Scace said, “Plant employees have started coming back in greater numbers recently, with very early Super Duty builds underway as we continue to prepare for launch,” as Ford continues to prepare the site for commercial production later in 2026. Ford announced a plan last fall to ramp up production of F-150 and Super Duty trucks in 2026 after the Oakville plant had been idle since the Edge crossover ended production two years ago.

Oakville project cost rises

The Oakville investment has expanded from the roughly $3.2 billion CAD Ford planned in July 2024, a figure that did not include several hundred million more for Super Duty production in general. By March 30, federal government funding had reached $464.5 million, up from the $295 million Ottawa had set aside when the site was slated for electric vehicles.

Ford switched the Oakville site from a planned new generation of electric vehicles to a Super Duty assembly line and an integrated stamping facility. The change tracks with demand: Canadian Super Duty sales peaked in 2025 and have risen another 6.4% so far this year.

Oakville jobs and output

Once fully operational, the Oakville assembly complex is expected to create approximately 1,800 jobs and produce up to 100,000 Super Duty pickups annually. That puts the site’s next phase on a tighter timetable than the old idle plant, with workers already back on site and very early builds moving through pre-production.

The commercial launch will determine how quickly Ford turns those early builds into volume output, and the company has already tied the project’s larger bill to that rollout. The upcoming 2027 model year also brings changes to the Super Duty lineup, including the Tremor Off-Road Package on all models, the XL Off-Road Package with 35-inch tires instead of 33-inch tires, and a new Carhartt edition.
